how root canal treatment is done?

                                         WHAT IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Our tooth has two parts.Upper  crown and lower part is  root.Crown is visible part and root is invisible part.

Decay usually starts in enamel layer. When it reaches dentin layer  ,you will feel the sensitivity during intake of cold/hot items. And finally, when it touches pulp you will feel the pain.
When decay is in dentin layer tooth colored filling can be done. But when it is in pulp region, there you have to proceed with Root canal  treatment.

Root canal treatment (RCT)  can be done in three sittings.

I st SITTING

we will take an x-ray to determine the decay depth. Then slowly under painless procedure we will remove the infected pulp(decay)throughly. Then we will clean it with saline. Here comes gutta percha.Gutta percha is a substitute for pulp.[GETAH-meaning gum,PARTJA- means tree in malayalam language].Yes,its a material come from malaysian tree.It will take over the work of pulp. Then we will place temporary material in 1st sitting.Medications will be given to reduce the infections.

II nd SITTING

There will be 2 to 3 days gap after 1st sitting. In second sitting we will remove the temporary  and permanent  material will be placed. After that, the tooth will be reduced 3 times smaller to the original tooth. This procedure is called tooth preparation. Then, impression of your tooth will be taken. This impression will sent to dental lab.

III rd SITTING

After 3 days, crown will be placed permanently in root canal treated tooth.

WHY CROWN (CAP) IS COMPULSORY?

Placing crown after RCT is important for three reasons :

                                                1.   For chewing and eating.
                                                2.   For esthetics
                                                3.   To prevent further infections.

MAKE EACH TEETH IN YOUR ORAL REGION TO SMILE.
