WHAT IS PERIODONTITIS
Peridontitis is the advanced stage of gum disease. When more plaque/tartar gets accumulated inside gums,it will be swalloen and reddish. Then leads to gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. Untreated gingivitis cases ends up in periodontitis.
In periodontitis, the gums will become weak, as there is more debris around them.Once the gums get weakend, there will be space between gums and teeth,we call this gap as POCKETS. We dentist usually measure the pockets as 1-3 mm,3-5,5-7mm and 7-10 mm using periodontal probe(instrument used to measure periodontal pocket).
In case of 1-3 mm and 3-5 mm,there will be recession (lowering of gums from normal level) and mild bone loss. In case of 5-7 mm there will be mobility in tooth (shaking of tooth) ,but the mobility is mild. But in 7-10mm pocket cases the mobility will be high, due to more bone loss.
