Image
TREATMENT OPTIONS; Tooth Decay treatment depends on the severity of your condition; Treatments include;   Fluoride  Fillings  Root canal treatment  Tooth Extraction Fluoride; In the very early stages of tooth decay,  fluoride  treatments can repair damaged enamel —by a process called remineralization. This can reverse the early signs of tooth decay. You may need prescription toothpaste and mouthwash, as well as fluoride application from your dentist. These fluoride treatments are generally quick, which will take only a  few minutes . The fluoride comes in the form of a gel, varnish, foam, or solution.   Filling; If you have a typical cavity, your dentist will remove the decayed part in your tooth and then restore the tooth by filling it with a filling material.Initial filling of your tooth will prevent further progression of decay. Root canal treatment; If the damage to the tooth or infection spreads to the pulp (inside of the tooth), you might need a root canal treatment.Your dentist

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF TOOTH DECAY

Image
What is Tooth Decay? Tooth decay is damage to a tooth's surface(Enamel). It happens when bacteria in your mouth make acids that attack the enamel. Tooth decay can lead to cavities (dental caries), which are holes in your teeth. If tooth decay is not treated, it can cause pain, infection, and even tooth loss. What causes Tooth Decay? Our mouths are full of bacteria. Some bacteria are helpful. But some can be harmful, including the ones that play a role in tooth decay. These bacteria combine with food to form a soft, sticky film called plaque. The bacteria in plaque use the sugar and starch in what you eat and drink to make acids. The acids begin to eat away at the minerals on your enamel. A white spot may appear where minerals have been lost. This is an early sign of tooth decay. You may be able to stop or reverse the decay at this point. Your enamel can still repair itself, if you take better care of your teeth and limit sugary/starchy foods and drinks. But if the tooth decay proce

CARBONATED DRINKS AND YOUR TEETH

Carbonated drinks such as soft drinks (soda pop), sparkling water, carbonated wines, and energy drinks are prepared by incorporating carbon dioxide (as dry ice or liquid) into the liquids.  The addition of carbon dioxide into the water or watery liquid creates a chemical (carbonic acid) that makes the drink fizzy. It also imparts an acidic flavor and sweet sensation to your mouth. This acidic flavour will cause damage to your teeth.  The high concentration of sugars and acids in soda is associated with  obesity , type 2  diabetes , and  heart diseases . They are also known to damage teeth and cause tooth decay MAJOR SIDE EFFECT OF CARBONATED DRINKS ON DENTAL HEALTH; TOOTH EROSION : The higher acidic content in the drinks tends to dissolve the outer surface of enamel causing tooth erosion. This can lead to sensitivity or pain in the tooth .  TOOTH DECAY : The sugar content in carbonated drinks or soft drinks interacts with the bacteria in the mouth to form an acid. This acid in additio

GUM CONTOURING

Image
Gum contouring is the subtle remodelling of the gum line that frames your smile. Because the technique requires minor oral surgery to cut away the surplus gum tissues, you may require dental anaesthesia before the operation. It is, however, a minimally invasive technique that focuses primarily on regions of tissue that cover too much of your tooth structure. The immediate advantage of gum contouring is the increased confidence you will have knowing that your gum line matches your teeth in a healthy and  attractive way.On the contrary, trimming away extra gum tissue has brief merits for the health of your teeth and gums. Gingivitis develops when oral bacteria settle behind your gum tissues, where your toothbrush and floss cannot reach them. Gum overgrowth might provide different hiding spots for dental germs. This implies that gum contouring can lower your risk of gum disease by limiting the ability of hazardous oral germs to hide beneath your gums. Benefits of Gum Contouring
