WHY DENTAL IMPRESSION ?

Dental impression is a replica of patient mouth.There are many procedures in dentistry to make a treatment complete.In this busy world we can not call the patient every time for our procedure,so we will take a impression of patient mouth and use it whenever we needed.It is used for variety of purposes in dental field.

MATERIALS USED FOR DENTAL IMPRESSION

1.ALGINATE



Alginate is a type of impression material.It is powder in nature,when mixes with water it turns into a cake batter consistency,and it will turn hard within 3 mins,because its setting time is 3 mins.Alginate contains alginic acid in it,it is a kind of polymer derived from sea weed.It also contains hydrous calcium sulfate.These two only major ingredient in alginate.There are various flavours in alginate powder,for example mango,strawberry,mint,vannila,lavender,etc.There is also color changing type of alginate,once the color turns ,its time to keep alginate in patient mouth for impression.

2.PUTTY


Putty material is an elastic impression material.It wont stick on patients mouth as alginate.Putty usually comes in two separate boxes.We should take equal amount of material from two boxes and starts to mix.Once we starts to mix,their setting times also started,they will get very hard than alginate once they got set.Setting time for putty is 5 -8 mins.As we said early putty comes in two boxes,one box contains base and another contains catalyst.Base and catalyst will provided in different color,once they got mixed up,final color is reached.As alginate,putty also comes in various flavours.



3.INTRA ORAL SCANNER

This is an advanced technique of impression in dentistry.No material is needed,the device will be connected to the system,it will be rotated all over the mouth,all the details will be collected in the system and saved as a data.



For all types of impression,first we should select proper size of impression tray that perfectly fits the patient mouth for good impressions.
