When we think about dental implants,the first thing that hits our mind is ,whether they get rust?And today we are here to clear you doubt in a simple way.



Before we talk about dental implants, let me ask you a very simple question.We as common people see rust on common items like gate,locks,etc.And yes those items we saw have major component in them,IRON.Iron gets rust easily.

Dental implants are made of titanium.Now you can ask even all metals get rust?Obviously YES.But it depends only on their manufactuing.Even gold and silver are metal components,do they get rust?we all know, it does not.


Now I talk about dental implants.Dental implants are made up of titanium.This was discovered in 1950.Till now we dentist use 98% of dental implants with titanium made.

HOW TITANIUM DENTAL IMPLANTS MADE?

Titanium is an element with atomic number 22.It has a lustrous finishing & silver in color.Titanium has excellent properties like high ability to ressist corrosion,low density and high strength.
These qualities of titanium have made it to use under medical fields like a king.We for dental implants use grade V titanium .The grades of titanium depends on the oxygen content.

TITANIUM AS DENTAL IMPLANTS

The surface of dental implant with titanium and oxide film can absorb more calcium and phosphate ions,which is more important for bonding.We most commonly use titanium  in combination of some alloys,so it is called as Binary titanium alloy.

Dental implants are made of 90.55 of titanium and 6 % of aluminium ,4 % of vanadium,0.25% of iron (only) ,0.2% of oxygen.

This is called grade V titanium alloy.Dental implants are made only with grade V titanium.This grade V titanium has excellent strength and higher corrosion resistance ability.

key to remember

Even your  platium rings ,chains,ear rings everything are made in combination with titanium.

So we conclude that dental implants have corrosion ressitance upto 99.9%.Dental implants are made of rust free metals.Keep enjoying your food with dental implants.
