 When coming to buying a toothbrush;we have various options for it.Mostly we consider factors like colour,brand and price of the tooth brush.

      To choose the right toothbrush the following factors should be considered;

  • Size of brush head
  • Type of bristles
  • Round vs Straight bristles
  • Manual vs Electric toothbrush

Size of brush head;

There is a different size of toothbrush recommended for children versus adults, so be sure to purchase the toothbrush that is right for your needs. Brush heads vary in sizes, it is important to look for a brush head that can reach those hard-to-clean areas in our mouths.Aim for a toothbrush with a smaller head as it allows you to focus on the areas we commonly miss with large headed toothbrushes.


Type of bristles;

Tooth brush bristles usually comes in different types like Soft,Medium,Hard & Ultra soft.Hard bristles may damage your protecting layer of the tooth(Enamel) which may lead to sensitivity.Soft tooth bristles are usually recommended.When your tooth brush bristles become frayed,change of toothbrush is rccommended.


 Round vs Straight bristles;

 Tips of toothbrush bristles come in two different shapes – rounded and straight. Actually the shape of your brush’s bristles has a huge impact on your oral health.Bristles with sharp, jagged tips are more likely to damage your gums by cutting them, which can increase your chances of infections and inflammation. That’s why you should make sure to buy a tooth brush with round bristles. Not only will they help protect your gums from infections and inflammation, but they’re also the best option if you have sensitive gums.


Manual vs Electric tooth brush;

Personal prefrence play a important role in choosing between manual vs electric tooth brush. They both do an excellent job in cleaning your teeth. Proper brusing of your teeth with correct brushing technique is recommended in both type of tooth brush.The biggest factor for most people is cost. Toothbrushes powered by batteries and electricity will cost more when compared to manual tooth brush. Electric toothbrushes do have one advantage over their traditional counterparts, For those who brush too hard or have limited mobility, electric toothbrushes allow for a gentle, easy cleaning.
